Artist

Amina Ounes is a French-Algerian artist and photographer whose work is a powerful investigation into the layered dimensions of identity, spirituality, and contemporary feminism. Her lens acts as both witness and archivist, employing an intentional and embodied approach to translate intimate realities into forms of visual poetry and subtle political resistance. Her images are situated at the intersection of documentary narrative and deeply introspective art.

 

Through an anthropological and poetic visual framework, Amina explores the profound echoes of cultural heritage, memory, and love, revealing how architecture, ritual, and human presence carry the complex weight of remembrance. Her practice functions as a modern form of anamnesis, a powerful tracing of what the soul knows, capturing faces and gestures steeped in history and faith.

Amina holds a Master's degree in Cultural and Arts Engineering from the Université Côte d'Azur, Nice, where her thesis focused on “Le cinéma Algérien: l’esthétique d’une reconstruction identitaire”. Her academic work examined the emergence of post-independence Algerian cinema and its central function in aesthetically rebuilding a collective identity after colonization. This intellectual rigor is seamlessly woven into her expanded practice, leveraging photography, filmmaking, and poetry to convey the fierce beauty of existence and the necessity of love and resistance.

Her work has been recognized internationally and showcased at significant platforms, including the 2024 Les Rencontres de la Photographie Biennale in Marrakech, the exhibition Photography: The Universal Language curated by FotoFemmeUnited at Musée de la Femme in Marrakech, and the Delia Arts Foundation fundraising gala in Amsterdam.
